A brand is only as strong as it's strategy. You've heard that before right? Well, I hate to break it to you, but this isn't a blog telling you that they're wrong...

Putting in tireless hours of work to carve out your meticulous brand strategy may not be the most glamorous part of starting a brand, but let me tell ya - it is an ESSENTIAL step in creating an impactful and meaningful experience for your customers. And lucky you! Your favourite brand designer (hehe) is giving you all the goods to make it oh-so-easy for you (see down below). 👼🏼 But first - let's start with the basics.

WHAT IS A BRAND STRATEGY BLUEPRINT?

A brand strategy blueprint is a crucial, comprehensive plan that outlines your brand's identity, values, target audience, and the path to achieving your dream objectives. AKA it is your 'Brand Bible', and what I would consider as the most useful tool in your arsenal. It serves as a roadmap, guiding your business decisions and ensuring consistency across all brand touchpoints.

THE PILLARS OF A STRONG BRAND STRATEGY BLUEPRINT

  1. BRAND IDENTITY:

    • Mission Statement: A clear and concise statement that defines your brand's purpose.

    • Vision Statement: A long-term goal that inspires your brand's growth. When your vision is clear, strategy is easy!

    • Brand Values: The core principles that guide your business decisions.

    • Brand Personality: The unique characteristics that define your brand's character.

  2. TARGET AUDIENCE:

    • Demographics: Age, gender, income, education, etc.

    • Psychographics: Lifestyle, interests, values, beliefs.

    • Customer Personas: Detailed profiles of your ideal customers.

  3. BRAND POSITIONING:

    • Unique Selling Proposition (USP): What sets your brand apart from competitors.

    • Brand Positioning Statement: A concise statement that defines your brand's position in the market.

  4. BRAND MESSAGING:

    • Key Messages: The core messages you want to communicate to your audience.

    • Brand Voice: The tone and style of your communication.

  5. BRAND ELEMENTS:

    • Logos: The visual symbol of your brand.

    • Colour Palette: The colours that represent your brand.

    • Typography Suite: The fonts used for your brand.

    • Brand Imagery: The visual style that reflects your brand's personality.

  6. BRAND EXPERIENCE:

    • Customer Journey: The steps customers take when interacting with your brand.

    • Customer Service: The quality of your customer support.

    • Brand Touchpoints: All the interactions customers have with your brand.

CASE STUDY - SUCCESSFUL BRAND STRATEGY BLUEPRINTS

  1. The Ordinary - This back-to-basics beauty brand carved new pathways in the industry with its abnormal approach to skin care. Focussed on the ingredients, The Ordinary backs up their focus on quality ingredients without the fluff with a scientific aesthetic and messaging, creating a wholistic brand image and feel for their customers at every turn.

  2. Alo Yoga - One of my personal favourites, this elevated activewear brand curates a luxury experience for their customers by not only selling their product but also a lifestyle. With every interaction, Alo reinforces their values of building community through mindful movement, taking you from a sweaty pilates class to a cute coffee shop.

YOUR PATH TO A STRONG BRAND STRATEGY BLUEPRINT:

  1. Conduct Research: Gather information about your industry, competitors, and target audience.

  2. Define Your Brand: Identify your brand's mission, vision, values, and personality.

  4. Position Your Brand: Define your USP and brand positioning statement.

  5. Develop Your Brand Messaging: Craft compelling key messages and a consistent brand voice.
